EMERGING TRENDS IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
The world of work is rapidly changing. As a part of organization, Human Resource Management (HRM) must be prepared to deal with effects of changing world of work. It is much essential to understand the current technological advancement and its projection in the future, it has brought in new eyes in the face of HRM. A number of computerized systems have been invented to help in the HRM of which they are seen as simplifier of HR functions in companies.
Technology
Business technology has revolutionized the way companies conduct business. Organizations can implement business technology and level the playing field with larger organizations. Organizations use computers, servers, websites and personal digital products to develop competitive advantages in the economic marketplace. Organization leaders should consider implementing technology in their planning process.
Kodak was trying to benchmark the quintessential photo storage medium, evidently not realizing that the digital revolution was obliterating artificial boundaries between “photo storage” and other sorts of data storage. Kodak, by sticking to its old school philosophy that the photo is king, failed to see that there would never be a sustainable market for what it wanted to sell.
Kodak did eventually make more aggressive moves into the digital tech business. The problem Kodak would face in all of these new ventures is that it was too late to own any facet of the market. Whether fighting for territory in the printer or digital camera markets, it was always perilously behind well established players. The investment required to ramp up in those markets generated a debt load that outpaced the company's ability to generate revenue, and that cycle can continue for only so long.
It has also been sad to watch the decline of Kodaks hometown, Rochester, which has taken the brunt of the company's decline.
Blackberry
Do you all remember most of your’s first smart phone may be “Crack Berry?” There was a time when the primary mode of business communication was BBM and everyone wanted to know your PIN. It was the phone to have in the mid- to late-2000’s (in 2007 it had more than half of the market share of phones in the US.)
But on June 29, 2007 the iPhone was released.
At first, Blackberry ignored touch screen based technology insisting their phones would remain the de-factor standard for enterprises especially since the iPhone struggled early with solid enterprise email security. But by dominating in the consumer market and slowly promoting Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) standards within companies, Apple redefines the market and left Blackberry stumbling and blinded by their own success.
Their initial inaction snowballed into a succession of failed attempts to innovate. Blackberry currently has 0.8% of the Smart phone market share according to IDC.
